After evaluating the needs and the potential uses for the radio equipment, I recommend that the city begin the public works radio network with the following equipment: 1. Four Mobile Radios, 2 Channel 2. One Base Station power supply 3. One Base Station antenna 4. Three individual desk chargers 5. Three portable radios 6 . One remote control 7. One remote control installation plus 25 cents per foot cable 8. One Base Station installation 9 Three Mobile installations 10 . Three holsters and belt loops The equipment listed is a good beginning for the city. As other requirements for city communications develops, it can be added to the existing system and compatability should not be a problem. The estimated cost for this system is $6765. 18 which includes sales tax, installation, and annual service fees. This system provides four mobile radios that will be installed and three portable radios. All radios would have initally 2 channel frequency capability with the option of adding more to 799 Moorpark Avenue Moorpark, California 93021 (805) 529-6864 the units if it ever becomes necessary. The portable radios can be used by the code enforcement officer or other staff personnel. The additional two portables can be issued to a specific crossing guard that may have a unusually dangerous location, other city staff personnel on specific occasions or events, or be used as back up to mobile units that will need service occasionally. The three individual chargers and holsters will give the city flexibility in the field use of the portable radios and protection of the equipment from accidental dropping, theft, or loss of the portables while in use. As the city grows, the communications system must also expand to meet the needs of the city. This is only the initial step in the development of the city communications. It is also essential that the city have its own communications and not rely upon the county or volunteers during a disaster or other major event that will occur in the city from time to time.
