MEMORANDUM
TO: The Honorable City Council
FROM: Steven Kueny, City Manager
DATE: May 28, 1985
SUBJECT: Contribution of Chairs to Chamber of Commerce
BACKGROUND:
•
Included with the furnishings of the Community Center when title
vas :transferred from the County in 1984 were 40 black, folding •
chairs. We found these chairs to be heavy, bulky and cumbersome
for -handling, particularly in view of the many .functions booked
for the center and the constant moving of the chairs for accommodation..
Consequently, the City acquired 300 light weight folding chairs for
our use in the Community Center and we have been simply storing the
black chairs. We loaned them out once, for the ground-breaking
ceremonies for the Senior Citizens Development at Charles and
Magnolia, but they have not been used since otherwise.
We have received a request from the Chamber of Commerce for .acquisition
of .25 of these black chairs . The Parks and Recreation Commission has
recommended that the 25 chairs be donated to the Chamber and we would
like to accommodate them. We have placed the value of the chairs
at $250 . 00, 'and the City Attorney has informed us that we may legally .
donate them to the Chamber as an "in lieu" contribution for the pro-
motion of the City, pursuant to the provisions of Section 37110 of
the Government Code.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
That Council find that the value of the chairs is $250. 00; make a
determination that donating the: 25 black, folding chairs to the
Chamber of Commerce is an "in lieu" contribution for the promotion
of the City; and further, that the Chamber of Commerce may not dispose
of the chairs without having obtained approval from the Council to do so.
