Cite Council i0leeting 7A-Aiq ACTION:-_� w MOORPARK CITY COUNCIL- AGENDA REPORT µ. ..Vi TO: Honorable City Council FROM: Maureen Benson, City Clerk DATE: April 20, 2012 (CC Meeting of 05/02/12) SUBJECT: Consider Resident Commissioner to the Area Housing Authority of the County of Ventura BACKGROUND The Ventura County Area Housing Authority(AHA) Board includes a Commissioner who is a resident of an AHA housing project. Tomas Garcia, a resident of Thousand Oaks, has been a Resident Commissioner since 2008. Mr. Garcia's two-year term will expire on May 31, 2012. The Area Housing Authority conducted a recruitment for a tenant commissioner for the next term and received three applications, including one from Tomas Garcia. A letter has been received from the members of the Resident Council of the AHA requesting ratification of the appointment of Mr. Garcia to serve another term as Resident Commissioner. STAFF RECOMMENDATION Direct that a letter be sent to the Area Housing Authority Board ratifying the appointment of Tomas Garcia as a Resident Commissioner for a term ending May 31, 2014. Moorpark Ave. Moorpark, CA 93021 SUBJECT: RESIDENT COMMISSIONER APPOINTMENT Dear Ms. Traffenstedt: Every two years, the Area Housing Authority of the County of Ventura contacts each of its seven jurisdictions in the interest of jointly appointing a Resident Commissioner to serve on the Housing Authority's Board of Commissioners. Tomas ("Tom") Garcia is the current Resident Commissioner, a gentleman who has served us well since 2008 and whose current term will expire on May 31s'. After posting notices and taking applications at Public Housing sites, a total of three applications for Resident Commissioner were received, including Tom's. Members of our Resident Council met to review all applications and have agreed Tom Garcia to be the best choice. Therefore as Executive Director for the Area Housing Authority, it is my privilege to recommend reappointment of Tom Garcia for Resident Commissioner. We request this be agendized by the Moorpark City Council at an opportune time. I will look forward to receiving a letter of affirmation with City Council endorsement, and am appreciative for the City of Moorpark's support. Cordially, Douglas A.
