CITY OF MOORPARK,CALIFORM MOORPARK CITY COUNCIL City Council Meeting AGENDA REPORT ACTION: TO: Honorable City Council +---- FROM: Steven Kueny, City Manager DATE: May 8, 2012 (Special CC Meeting of 05/09/12) SUBJECT: Consider Lease Agreement with Catholic Charities of Los Angeles, Ventura County Region to Temporarily Store Food Supplies at the Moorpark Public Services Facility, Located at 627 Fitch Avenue, Moorpark, California BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION The City was recently approached by a representative of Catholic Charities of Los Angeles, Ventura County Region (Catholic Charities) to assist with their need for short term storage of donated food. As the City Council is aware, Catholic Charities and the related Food Pantry had to remove their modular building at the Ruben Castro Human Services Center (RCHSC) site as a result of the final phases of construction. They have relocated to the former Holy Cross Church building located at the corner of Everett Street and Magnolia Street. As a result of the temporary downsizing and expected need for storage from upcoming food drives, Catholic Charities needs additional storage space for approximately 120-days. City staff, along with members of the community, are looking for a temporary location at a private facility for them. In the event storage at a private facility cannot be arranged, Catholic Charities requested the City to provide storage space. The only available space would be at the Moorpark Public Service Facility (MPSF). This request can be accommodated by relocating on site certain City stored items. About 1050 cubic feet of storage space would be available. If approved, access to the MPSF would be limited to 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. FISCAL IMPACT For liability purposes, a lease agreement would be needed including a lease payment of $1.00. 1 Honorable City Council May 9, 2012, Special Meeting Page 2 STAFF RECOMMENDATION Approve lease agreement with Catholic Charities of Los Angeles, Ventura County Region, subject to final language approval of the City Manager and City Attorney consistent with the description contained in the agenda report; and authorize the City Manager to sign the lease agreement. 2
