DISCUSSION Following is an alphabetical list of the applicants who have indicated they will attend the January 5, 2011 meeting. Planning Commission Applicant Michael Lillis Rod Ridley Parks and Recreation Commission Applicants Zachary Cook Patrick Ellis Delfina Newton Thomas Pflaumer SandraThompson Julie Weisberger 3 Honorable City Council January 5, 2011 Regular Meeting Page 2 Of those who applied, the current Parks and Recreation Commissioners are Patrick Ellis, Delfina Newton, Thomas Pflaumer, and Sandra Thompson for the term ending December 2010. At the same City Council meeting on November 17, 2010, it was determined the Moorpark Arts Commission applicants would not be required to make a presentation as there are only five (5) vacancies to fill and five (5) qualified candidates applied. It was further determined that the appointments to the Moorpark Arts Commission would take place at the January 5, 2011, regular meeting. Following is an alphabetical list of the applicants for the Moorpark Arts Commission: Jean Amador Charles Blaugrund Tina Hamous Wendy Molloy Mary Schwabauer The City Council's current Policies Resolution No. 2010 -2959 sets forth the Council policies for citizen appointments to boards, commissions, and committees. The Council policies were followed for the posting and publication of notice of the vacancies. The Council's resolution states that the procedure for appointments shall be as follows: A. The Mayor shall solicit suggested nominees from members of the Council. B. Prior to making a motion for appointment, the Mayor shall announce the names of all persons he /she intends to nominate, and in the order to be nominated, for a board, commission, or committee. C. The Mayor shall then make a motion putting forth each individual name to be approved for appointment. D. A second shall be required. E. The Council shall vote on each appointment individually. STAFF RECOMMENDATION 1) Hear presentations from applicants; and 2) Based upon presentations provided from Planning Commission applicants on December 15, 2010 and January 5, 2011, appoint five (5) Planning Commissioners to serve a two (2) year term ending December 2012; and 3) Based upon presentations provided from Parks and Recreation Commission applicants on January 5, 2011, appoint five (5) Parks and Recreation Commissioners to serve a two (2) year term ending December 2012; and 4) Appoint five (5) Moorpark Arts Commissioners to serve a two (2) year term 4 ending December 2012.
