MOORPARK CITY COUNCIL- -41-o 0 o
AGENDA REPORT
TO: Honorable City Council -- ----
FROM: Deborah S. Traffenstedt, Administrative Services Director/City Clerkr
BY: Maureen Benson, Assistant City Clerk
DATE: March 23, 2010 (CC Meeting of 4/21/10)
SUBJECT: Consider Vacancy on Teen Council
BACKGROUND
On March 22, 2010, a copy of a Teen Council Member resignation letter was received
via email from the Recreation Coordinator overseeing the Teen Council. Teen Council
Member, Tyler Cherry, tendered her resignation effective March 1, 2010. Ms. Cherry's
term would have expired on June 30, 2010.
The Teen Council membership formerly consisted of a minimum of 7 members and a
maximum of 11 members. The current Teen Council membership was raised to a
maximum of 15 members after Council's decision on July 1, 2009. With the departure
of Ms. Cherry, the current Teen Council will have 14 remaining members.
DISCUSSION
Policy 2.2 of City Council Policies Resolution No. 2010-2892 indicates the City Council
may use their discretion to determine that a vacancy will not be filled on a commission
or council due to the length of the remaining term of office. Staff recommends
recruitment to fill the vacancy on the Teen Council not be pursued at this time due to the
length of the remaining term in office and the number of remaining members on the
Teen Council.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Leave the current vacancy unfilled.

To Whom It May Concern:
It is with regret that I write to you resigning from my position as a member
of Moorpark's Teen Council. I have recently been called to volunteer of Los
Robles Hospital, a waiting list that I have been on for almost a year and a half. I
have been asked to volunteer on Monday afternoons to evenings, from 4:00-8:00
p.m. unfortunately, these dates and times conflict with Teen Council's meetings
and after heavy consideration and a lot of thinking, I have decided volunteering is
more of a priority currently.
I would like to thank Moorpark's City Council for selecting me to be on the
Teen Council, and I assure you, I would not have traded the experience for
anything. Participating in city events, coordinating social events, and being able
to make Moorpark more interactive and enjoyable for teens has been a wonderful
experience. Thank you again for choosing me to represent Moorpark's
teenagers.
Sincerely,
Tyler Cherry
