SUBJECT: Consider Presentations from Candidates for Parks and Recreation
Commission
BACKGROUND
At the City CounciPs meeting on November 5, 2008, staff was directed to invite the
applicants for the Parks and Recreation Commission to attend the January 7, 2009,
regular meeting and make a brief presentation on qualifications and interest in the
appointment. Letters were mailed and copies emailed on November 14, 2008, to all
applicants inviting attendance on January 7th and identifying a maximum presentation
time period of 3 minutes. A reminder email/phone call on December 30th was provided
to each applicant. As directed by Council, the City Clerk will conduct a random drawing
of the names of the applicants just prior to the start of the meeting to determine the
order in which the applicants will speak.
DISCUSSION
Following is a list of the applicant names in alphabetical order.

Of those who applied, the current Parks and Recreation Commissioners are Joseph
Catrambone, Scott Krutilek, and Sandra Thompson.

The City Council's current Policies Resolution No. 2007-2636 sets forth the Council
policies for citizen appointments to boards, commissions, and committees. The Council
policies have been followed for the posting and publication of notice of the vacancies.
The Council's resolution states that the procedure for appointments shall be as follows:
A. The Mayor shall solicit suggested nominees from members of the Council.
B. Prior to making a motion for appointment, the Mayor shall announce the
names of all persons he/she intends to nominate, and in the order to be
nominated, for a board, commission, or committee.
C. The Mayor shall then make a motion putting forth each individual name to
be approved for appointment.
D. A second shall be required.
E. The Council shall vote on each appointment individually.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Hear presentations from candidates and appoint five (5) Park and Recreation
Commissioners to serve atwo-year term ending December 31, 2010.
