SUBJECT: Consider Schedule for Arts Commission Candidate Interviews
BACKGROUND
The first and second recruitments to fill five vacancies on the Arts Commission did not
result in enough applicants; therefore, a third recruitment was directed by Council and
concluded at 5:00 p.m. on December 19, 2008. Staff has now received a total of seven
applications, which have been forwarded to Council under separate cover.
DISCUSSION
The Council's appointment policy(Policy 5 of the City Council Policies Resolution)requires
staff to schedule Arts Commission applicants to make a brief presentation on qualifications
and interest in the appointment at a regular meeting in December. An exception to this
deadline was made by Council at the December 3, 2008, meeting when the recruitment
was extended and Council directed staff to bring this item back so the interview schedule
could be established. The Arts Commission's first meeting in 2009 is scheduled for
February 17. Potential dates for scheduling Arts Commission interviews include the
following:
January 21, 2009 (regular meeting)
February 4, 2009 (regular meeting)
