SUBJECT: Consider Plans and Specifications and Authorization to Advertise for
Bids for the Construction of the Tierra Rejada Road Median

BACKGROUND
In early 2006 the City completed construction of Phase 1 of the Tierra Rejada Road
Median Landscaping Project, which extended from Spring Road easterly to a point west
of the State Route 23 freeway. Phase 2 of the project is for the installation of median
landscaping within Caltrans right-of-way under and near the freeway overpass bridges,
(Attachment 1). That work had to be deferred until after completion of the freeway
widening project by Caltrans. The freeway work is now completed and it is now
appropriate to proceed with construction of Phase 2 of the median landscaping project.
DISCUSSION
A. Project Scope
The subject project provides for the removal of the AC pavement and guardrails within
the medians under the freeway, and in Caltrans right-of-way for the construction of
irrigation, landscaping, and hardscape to match the existing improvements on Phase
1 of this project.
B. Plans and Specifications
Project plans and specification for the subject project have been placed on top of the
file cabinets in the City Council conference room.
