DENNIS DELZEIT SCOTT MONTGOMERY City Engineer Councilmember JOHN V. GILLESPIE RICHARD T. HARE Chief of Police City Treasurer MEMORANDUM TO: The Honorable City Council FROM: Philip Newhouse, Director of Community Services DATE: March 8, 1989 SUBJECT: Storage Bins BACKGROUND: Currently, the Public Works Division equipment is stored at two locations: a 26' storage bin behind the Community Center we rent from S & W Containers, and a 12° x 16' storage space we rent from Moorpark Self Storage. Additionally, when park equipment is delivered, it is temporarily stored in the storage bin behind the Community Center. We have been renting the storage space at Moorpark Self Storage for approximately three (3) years and the storage bin from S & W Containers about two (2) years. The Moorpark Self Storage space rental is $110.00 per month or $1,320.00 per year, and the storage bin from S & W Containers rents for $85.00 per month or $1,020.00 per year. DISCUSSION: Staff solicited costs from Port-A--Store and S & W Containers for the purchase of two 40' storage bins to replace our current rented storage space. Port-A-Store informed us the largest storage bin they sell is 26' in length, which is the same size of our rental unit. S & W Containers have storage bins to 40' in length. Costs of a 40' storage bin is: 799 Moorpark Avenue Moorpark, California 93021 (805) 529-6864 S TORAGE.8IN/PRAGENUA A. Storage Unit 40' x 8' x 8'6" $2,895.00 B. Delivery & setup 125.00 Subtotal $3,825.00 Tax 229.50 TOTAL COSTS $4,054.50 It' s unlikely that a proposal concerning a permanent Public Works facility will be considered by the City Council until late 1989, with construction scheduled after that time. The storage bin could be used at such public facility or re-sold. Funds in the amount of $6,000.00 were budgeted in Account 01-1147-906-003 for the purchase of a 4-wheel ATC or small truck to be used to maintain the softball fields at Peach Hill and North Meadows Parks. All bids received to purchase the vehicle exceeded the budgeted funds. Recently, Council authorized the purchase of a spray boom and related equipment of which one-half of the cost ($362.86) was funded from Account 01-1147-906-003, leaving a balance of $5,637. 14. STAFF RECOMMENDATION: 1. Approve purchase of a 40' storage bin from S & W Containers in the amount of $4,054.50. 2. Authorize funds for the purchase from Account 01-1147-906-003 which will leave a balance of $1,582.64.
