Investigations
The Moorpark Investigative Unit consists of a Sergeant, two Senior Deputy Detectives and one Sheriff's
Service Technician Investigator. The unit investigates a variety of cases ranging from thefts of property
to violent crimes against persons. Recent trends in criminal activity in Moorpark have been thefts from
unlocked vehicles and an increase in identity theft related cases. Other cities surrounding Moorpark
have also experienced an increase in similar types of criminal activity. These crimes are difficult to
investigate, because there are rarely witnesses that observe the suspect committing the crime. The unit
has made several identity theft related arrests, one in particular involved an employee of the elderly
victim who had opened several utility service accounts in the victim's name, incurring several thousand
dollars in debt.
