Genovese, Administrative Assistant ' DAT E : July 16, 1986 S U B J E C T : Liability Insurance for Moorpark Country Days BACKGROUND: At the regular July 7, 1986 Moorpark City Council meeting the City Council directed staff to investigate the possibility of the City's ability to insure the parade and related activities for Moorpark Country Days. This request was made because the Moorpark Chamber of Commerce, which is normally the sponsor of the event, was having difficulty obtaining insurance for the event. City staff has spoken with Lin Graf, Chairman of the event, to inquire as to the types of activities planned for this year. Staff has also contacted the City's insurance broker for approval and notification of the desire to insure the event. Mr. Wayne Brunkan of Tolman and Wiker has informed staff that the City will be able to insure the event at no additional cost to the City. However, it should be noted that the City's new policy has a $10,000 SIR (Self Insured retention) . This means that for each separate incident the City is responsible for $10,000 plus claims administration costs before the insurance would be responsible for and payment. As you are aware, the City currently has only $2,000,000 limits of liability but it is anticipated that additional coverage will be available prior to September 1986. 799 Moorpark Avenue Moorpark,California 93021 (805)529-6864 4 Honorable City Council July 16, 1986 Page 2 In speaking with Lin Graf on July 16, 1986, it is still unknown if the Chamber of Commerce will be able to obtain insurance for the event. More information concerning the Chamber's pursuit of insurance should be available at the City Council meeting. RECOMMENDATION: To direct staff to continue working with the Chamber of Commerce concerning insurance for Moorpark Country Days for a report at the next City Council meeting.
