SUBJECT: Consider Change to the Design Width for the CityCoundiMeefh
Spring Road Bridge Reconstruction Project -,r( -4l 199
DISCUSSION
The City Council has approved the subject bridge
replacement project. This project is to receive partial
funding from a Federal HBRR grant, with the majority of the
funding to be provided by the Tierra Rejada Road / Spring
Road AOC.
The City has retained the firm of Dwight French &
Associates (DFA) to prepare the design for the subject
project. The preliminary design width which had been
identified in the RFP, Proposal and prior reports to the
City Council was sixty feet (601). The proposed width of
the bridge identified in the conceptual design prepared by
the engineer is fifty feet (501). These two concepts are
illustrated on the cross sections attached as Exhibit 'A'.
The revised width of the bridge is deemed to be adequate
for the traffic needs of this street. This width is
compatible with the width of present and future sidewalks
in the immediate area, as well as the width of future Bike
Lanes to be installed in this area, as illustrated on the
cross section approved for this street for the Carlsberg
Specific Plan which is attached as Exhibit 'B'.
