October 20, 1995 V SUBJECT: RESOLUTIONS NECESSARY FOR THE SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION MARCH 26, 1996 Attached are the two resolutions needed to call the Special Municipal Election to fill the vacancy on the Council created by the October 12, 1995 resignation of Scott Montgomery. The Special Election is scheduled for March 26, 1996 which is the first regular election date at least 114 days from the call of the election on November 1. The City will be requesting consolidation with the Statewide Primary Election to be held on the same day. In conjunction with the calling of the Special Election, and pursuant to Section 23302 of the Elections Code, the City will request that the Board of Supervisors permit the County Clerk to render services in conducting the Special Election. County Elections has provided an estimate of $5,500 as the cost of the special election. Staff is requesting a $6,000 appropriation of funds from the General Fund Reserve to the Election Services line item. STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Approve an appropriation of $6,000 from the General Fund Reserve to 01.04.113.649 (Election Services) and approve the resolutions: 1) Resolution No. 95- calling and giving notice of the holding of the Special Municipal Election and requesting consolidation with the Statewide Primary Election; and 2) Resolution No. 95- requesting the Board of Supervisors to allow the County Clerk to render services for the Special Municipal election and to canvass the returns of said election.
