Mee±inq MOORPARK CITY COUNCIL ACTION. - - - -- - -- AGENDA REPORT BY: TO: The Honorable City Council FROM: Mary Lindley, Parks, Recreation & Community Service \ Director DATE: February 3, 2006 (Meeting of February 15, 2006) SUBJECT: Consider Award of Contract to Community Works Design Group for the Poindexter Park Expansion Conceptual Design DISCUSSION In 2004, the City purchased the property at 412 Poindexter Avenue with the objective of expanding Poindexter Park. The property is directly adjacent to the northern property line of the existing park and it is comprised of 2.02 acres. In May, 2004, the City performed a tree survey of all of the trees on the property. Of the 60 trees, 20 of them were recommended for removal because they were dead or diseased and were of no value. Staff is in the process of having the trees removed, in preparation for the conceptual design work. The Parks and Recreation Commission identified a number of park amenities it wanted considered a part of the conceptual design process. Those amenities include: skatepark, baseball field (request from Little League), picnic areas, additional parking, basketball court, more horse shoe pits, and an area for teens to congregate. Given the limited size of the vacant parcel, the Commission recognizes that it will not accommodate everything they identified. As they move through the design process with the landscape architect and the public, they will narrow down the desirable amenities. Staff solicited cost proposals for conceptual design services from qualified landscape architects. A total of four proposals were received by the due date of January 26, 2006. The results are as follows: MIG /Purkis Rose $24,765 Community Works Design Group $25,850 RJM Design $26,140 000049 Honorable City Council February 15, 2006 Page 2 RRM Design Group $41,790 The first three listed firms were very close in price and all three are well qualified. The fourth firm is well qualified, but their price far exceeds the others. Staff proposes awarding a contract to Community Works Design Group. This firm is the landscape architect that designed Poindexter Park as it exists today. Their familiarity with the park, its design, and construction specifications should make the process a little easier. The contract under consideration is for conceptual design is complete, the City will and specifications for the expansion. The design work in the FY 2005/06 budget. No time. STAFF RECOMMENDATION conceptual design only. Once the secure a consultant to prepare plans City Council allocated $50,000 for additional funds are needed at this Authorize the City Manager to execute an agreement with Community Works Design Group not to exceed $25,850.
