Status Report on Site Plan for Ruben Castro Human Services Center
DISCUSSION:
On March 1, 2006 the City Council approved the conceptual site plan for the Ruben
Castro Human Services Center and directed staff to provide a status report on June 7
concerning proposed tenants for the facility and the proposed new building's setbacks
and visual relationship with the Police Services Center located immediately south of the
proposed site.
The primary tenants for the facility are proposed to include a non - profit medical, dental,
and mental health care provider for the 10,000 square foot clinic; Catholic Charities,
Moorpark/Simi Valley Neighborhoods for Learning, and various other human and social
service providers including Ventura County agencies that would occupy space in the
15,000 square foot Under - One -Roof facility on a full or part-time basis.
On May 10 staff met with HMC Architects to discuss the project and review various
issues relating to the design of the new facility. HMC was asked to prepare a
perspective view of the proposed new building showing both buildings viewed from
Spring Road facing south. This work has not yet been completed. Staff will be also be
recommending some changes to a number of the building's exterior features.
Staff expects to be able to provide a report for a more detailed design review for the
City Council on July 19 or August 2.
