Lail, City Engineer /Public Works Director 6 PREPARED BY: Teddy Okoye, Assistant City Engineer DATE: July 26, 2006 (CC Meeting of 08/02/06) SUBJECT: Consider Fiscal Year 2006/07 Budget Amendment to Appropriate Funds for Construction of Raised Median on Princeton Avenue at Campus Park Drive SUMMARY Proposed improvements will include the modification of the raised median at the intersection of Princeton Avenue /Campus Park Drive, and the installation of bike lanes on the east and west side of Princeton Avenue from Campus Park Drive to south Condor Drive. BACKGROUND City capital improvement plans include a project to modify the median at the intersection of Princeton Avenue and Campus Park Drive. DISCUSSIONS The median on Princeton Avenue /Campus Park Drive (Exhibit 1) will be modified to convert the existing configuration to a dedicated left turn only and a dedicated right turn lane only. Additionally bike lanes will be added on the west and east sides of Princeton Avenue to south Condor Drive. The current configuration at Princeton Avenue /Campus Park Drive, has two right turn lanes and a left turn lane. Since the construction of the 118/23 connection several years ago, this intersection is no longer used as an alternate route for Moorpark College related traffic, as such, the need for two right turn lanes is not needed. c:city share /public works /everyone /staff reports/2006 /Aug /Princeton Medians 000300 Honorable City Council August 2, 2006 Page 2 The median will be landscaped to match the existing landscape within this area. The Community Services Department is in the process of contracting with a landscape architect to design improvements for areas along Campus Park Drive and Princeton Avenue. This median will be landscaped according to that plan. It is anticipated that the project will be completed by December 2006. Budget Impact The recommended funding source for the project is the Transportation Development Act (TDA) Fund. The estimated project cost is summarized below: Description Design $5,000 Construction $70,000 Construction Administration $10,000 Total $85,000 STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS (ROLL CALL VOTE) Approve "Concept" and direct staff to complete the design plans. 2.
