MOORPARK CITY COUNCIL BY. 30 cA
AGENDA REPORT
TO: Honorable City Council
FROM: Deborah S. Traffenstedt, Administrative Services Director /City
Clerk 5T
BY: Maureen Benson, Deputy City Clerk.i'
DATE: October 13, 2006 (CC Meeting of 11/01/06)
SUBJECT: Consider Teen Council Appointment to Fill One Vacancy
BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION
On June 21, 2006, the City Council made the following eleven (11) appointments
to the Teen Council for the one -year term beginning July 1, 2006, and ending
June 30, 2007: Shalabh Agarwala (9th grade), Yvette Betancourt (12th grade),
Christopher Darabi (12th grade), Tiffany Johnson (10th grade), Shalini Karra
(11th grade), Gunnar Mazur (7th grade), Angelica Paredes (11th grade), Emily
Tung (12th grade), Justin Tung (11th grade), Tyler Van Dam (9th grade), and
Paige Weiner (9th grade).
A vacancy in the 12th grade category has recently occurred. Staff is requesting
the City Council take one of the following two actions: 1) Make one appointment
to fill the vacancy using the prior recruitment (see applications provided under
separate cover); or 2) Determine that no additional appointment is required due
to the fact that there are ten remaining members on the Teen Council and a
minimum of one representative from each grade level from 7th grade to 12th
grade (consistent with the adopted Teen Council appointment policy, which
allows for a minimum of seven and no more than eleven members, with a goal of
having a minimum of one representative from each grade level from 7th grade to
12th grade).
There have been only three meetings of the Teen Council held since the June
appointments, so if a new appointment is made, there would be minimal catch -up
time involved.
