' • i / AKrl SUBJECT: Consider Budget Amendment to Establish Project Number for Repair of Street Subsidence at 3888 Painted Sky BACKGROUND The City was made aware of a street and driveway subsidence problem at the subject address in the Fall on 1995. A geotechnical engineer was retained to investigate the problem. Core tests revealed that there was a void under the paved surface of unknown size and that the existing subsurface soil condition was supersaturated. The causes for these problems could not be determined. The City Engineer was retained to prepare a design for a project to construct remedial repairs. Bids were solicited pursuant to the informal bidding procedures. A City Manager approved contract was awarded. The repair work was completed in July. DISCUSSION A. Budget Amendment During the investigation of this problem, and the design and construction of the solution, it was anticipated that the design work would be charged to contingency funds budgeted for engineering studies (142.641 // 801.9199) and construction would be charged to contingency funds budgeted for contract asphalt repairs (142.658 // 801.9191). Costs for this work were higher than anticipated. It is requested, therefore, that a separate project number be established for this project and that additional funds be appropriated for FY 1996/97 Costs. pnWsky ®105 Painted Sky August 1996 Page 2 B.
