AGENDA REPORT
C.ly Council Meei.ng
C=TY OF MOORPARK of
1991
A TION: e(
TO: The Honorable City Council
FROM: Kenneth C. Gilbert, Director of Public Works ,:y
DATE: January 11, 1994 (Council Meeting 1-19-94)
SUBJECT: Consider Design for an Entry Statement to be Constructed
at the Northwest Corner of Los Angeles Avenue and Shasta
Avenue (Lopez Wall)
f
BACKGROUND
In December 1993 , the City Council approved a project for the
construction of a block wall on the north side of Los Angeles
Avenue west of Shasta Avenue on the Lopez property. That action
included provisions for the construction of an entry statement at
the northwest corner of that intersection, in an easement to be
granted by the property owner. The purpose of this report is to
request direction regarding the design of that entry statement.
DISCUSSION
From the limited research staff has been able to undertake
regarding the history of this area, it appears that the name often
used to refer to this residential neighborhood is "Moorpark
Estates. " If verified, it would be appropriate to develop a design
and fabricate and install an entry sign bearing this name. It is
proposed that the sign be designed to be incorporated into the wall
design for this corner and that the sign be designed to be easy to
maintain. Also, a similar sign could be installed, with the
permission of the property owner, at the north end of this
neighborhood on the existing blockwall at the southwest corner of
Poindexter Avenue and Sierra Avenue.
Prior to proceeding with this effort, however, it may be
appropriate to solicit input from local residents.
RECOMMENDATION
Direct staff to send a letter to all of the residents in the area
north of Shasta Avenue and Los Angeles Avenue, advising them of the
City's intent to construct the subject entry statements, to include
the name "Moorpark Estates, " and requesting that they provide the
City with any comments or concerns they may have. [The results of
this inquiry will be forwarded to the City Council. ]
