AGENDA REPORT
CITY OF MOORPARK
Honorable City Council
Mary K. Lindley, Assistant to the City Manager /; /'
May 26, 1994 (CC meeting of June 1)
Consider Opposition to AB 2704, Stop Sign Mandate
If approved, AB 2704 (Karnette), Stop Sign Mandate, would require
the City to adopt a program to place additional signs at of all its
intersections that have four -way stop signs. The program would
require the installation of additional signs indicating that the
intersection is a "Four Way" or "All Way" stop. Such signage would
have to be completed by July 1, 1995. If the City fails to adopt
such a program by the mandated date, the State would be authorized
to withhold the City's gas tax allocation.
Re- signing the City's intersections would add an additional expense
to the City's budget. The League of California Cities opposes AB
2704.
Recommendation
Staff recommends that the City Council oppose AB 2704, Stop Sign
Mandate, and direct the Mayor to communicate the City's position to
the appropriate State legislators and legislative committees.
