Staff, at this meeting, presented a report which outlined the need to rename the parks. Due to the similarity in names (each using the word "Meadows" in the title) city staff and the Parks and Recreation Commission have encountered confusion from the public in identifying park sites name. Community Services staff continue to get phone calls from the public requesting to reserve "Mountain Meadows Park ", which does not exist. South Meadows Park is commonly referred to as either "The New Park" or the "Park by the Fire Station." As the park now referred to as West Meadows Park, has not been developed to date, it would be appropriate to designate a new name at this time, if its name is to be changed. By distinguishing each park name, the Parks and Recreation Commission felt that the public: confusion would be lessened, and staff would be able to help the residents more effectively. The Commission Committee to consider names included Commissioners John Hall and Arlene Butler. This committee also drafted the City Park Naming Policy, which the City Council is also reviewing tonight. The proposed names reflect the conditions in the draft policy, which states that whenever possible, parks should be named in relationship to geographic locations, such as street names or housing developments. The proposed names are listed below for City Council consideration. Current Name Proposed Name Rationale North Meadows Park Mountain Meadows Park Name of street and adjacent school West Meadows Park West Ranch Park Name of housing development is referred to by r . s South Meadows Park Rejada Trail Park Combination of Mountain Trail and Tierra Rejada, which intersect at the park
