Lindley, Assistant to the City Manager p DATE: May 17, 1994 (CC Meeting of May 18) SUBJECT: Award Contract for the Demolition and Construction of the Dorothy Avenue Wall Background On March 16, the Council appropriated $4 ,800 for the demolition of the Dorothy Avenue wall (adjacent to the south Metrolink parking lot) , $1, 000 for a temporary chain link fence, and $1, 000 for landscaping and irrigation repairs from the City's TDA fund. The City expects to be reimbursed for all but $480. On April 6, the City Council appropriated $19, 300 (from 50% MRA and 50% TDA) for the reconstruction of the Dorothy Avenue wall. In all, the Council appropriated a total of $26, 100 for the project. The City received five bid proposals for the demolition, removal, and construction of the Dorothy Avenue wall. The following is a list of the contractors and their bid amounts: Contractor Bid Amount Allied Building Contractors, Inc. $33, 135. 50 Pacific Central Construction 23, 648. 00 Malibu Pacific Tennis Courts, Inc. 37, 272 . 00 Greg Quigley Concrete 37,457. 14 CNM Paving 30,965. 00 w Dorothy Wall May 16, 1994 Page 2 Staff has reviewed the bid proposals and recommends that the Council approve award of the project to the low bidder, Pacific Central Construction. Pacific Central's proposal meets all of the specifications required in the City's RFP and is within the amount previously appropriated by Council. Upon Council's approval, staff will meet with the contractor to develop a project schedule. In addition, staff will request releases from the impacted residents to enter their property and to perform the work necessary to complete the project. Recommendation Staff recommends that Council award the contract for the demolition and construction of the Dorothy Avenue wall to Pacific Central Construction and authorize the City Manager to sign the contract on behalf of the City. wp51\disastr\dorwall.agd
