Consider Staff Report on Ventura County Pre Summit
Meetincr on Youth Violence.
Staff attended the Pre -Summit F arming meeting for the Youth
Violence Prevention Summit, which is scheduled for May 13 at
the Oxnard Hilton. This is th,- same day that the City has
scheduled and has publicized
Day, "World Fest '95 ", ity's first Multicultural
Over 100 people were at this planning meeting, including
elected city officials, four of `he five County Supervisors,
ministers, social service ager.c_iec :aw enforcement ( Lt.
Marty Rouse was in attendance) and at least one
representative from Moorpark Url `i_ed School District. There
were also a handful of youth It: ,ree from Moorpark Community
High School) who gave a pane.i_ 1lc;cussi on on why there is
youth violence, why kids j o _r; s , and what needs to be
done about it.
The purpose of the planning sumir;__t ,vas to get input from all
in attendance as to what the iss ze:_, at his summit should be,
the desired outcomes of tl,e urnnit and who should be
involved.
If it is successful, and does is Lt proposes, this Summit
could provide the tools to assz:,t individuals and agencies,
county wide, to address gangs, vii )I.ence and other anti- social
activities among teens, by coJ brat. ion, legislation, and
shared resources.
Staff will continue to keep thy- c:'u ty ,ouncil appraised of

Prevention Summit.
