HomeMy WebLinkAboutMIN 2017 1129 AC SPC I • MINUTES OF THE ARTS COMMISSION SPECIAL MEETING Moorpark, California November 29, 2017 A Special Meeting of the Arts Commission the City of Moorpark was held on November 29, 2017 in the Council Chambers of said City located at 799 Moorpark Avenue, Moorpark, California. 1. CALL TO ORDER: Chair Blaugrund called the meeting to order at 6:15 p.m. 2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Commissioner Hoberg led the Pledge of Allegiance. 3. ROLL CALL: Present: Commissioners De Hoz, Pugh and Roullard. Vice Chair Hoberg and Chair Blaugrund. Staff Present: Jeremy Laurentowski, Parks and Recreation Director; Stephanie Anderson, Recreation Services Manager; Chris Ball, Management Analyst. 4. SPECIAL AGENDA ITEMS: None. 5. PUBLIC COMMENT: None. 6. REORDERING OF, AND ADDITIONS TO, THE AGENDA: None. 7. ANNOUNCEMENTS, FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS, AND REPORTS ON MEETINGS/CONFERENCES ATTENDED BY COMMISSIONERS. None. Minutes of the Arts Commission Special Meeting Moorpark, California Page 2 November 29, 2017 8. PRESENTATION/ACTION/DISCUSSION: A. Consider Moorpark Arts Festival Event Alternatives. Staff Recommendation: Provide feedback on staff's recommendations for a cultural arts festival as described in the report and direct staff to prepare a report for City Council. Ms. Anderson gave the staff report. There were no speakers. Commissioner Roullard recommended evolving the Arts Festival into a weeklong event at different locations that culminates in a festival on High Street. Vice Chair Hoberg recommended keeping a Fine Art component in the cultural arts festival and suggested the Moorpark Cultural Arts Festival as the name of the Festival. Chair Blaugrund recommended keeping the work "Arts" in the name of the festival. Commissioner De Haz suggested choosing different themes for the event each year and agreed that art should be in the name of the festival. MOTION: Chair Blaugrund moved and Commissioner Roullard seconded a motion to direct staff to prepare a report for City Council recommending to bring back the Arts Festival and name it the Moorpark Cultural Arts Festival. The motion carried by unanimous voice vote. B. Update on Police Services Center Public Art Work. Staff Recommendation: Staff will give an oral report. Mr. Ball gave the staff report. There were no speakers. MOTION: It was the unanimous consensus of the Commission to receive and file the report. 9. CONSENT CALENDAR: MOTION: Chair Blaugrund moved and Vice Chair Hoberg seconded a motion to approve the consent calendar. The motion carried by unanimous voice vote. Consider Adopting Revised Rules of Procedure for Arts Commission Meetings and Related functions and Activities. Staff Recommendation: Adopt Revised Rules of Procedure for Arts Commission Meetings and Related Functions and Activities. B. Approval of Minutes for Arts Commission Special Meeting of June 13, 2017. Staff Recommendation: Approve as presented. 10. ADJOURNMENT: Chair Blaugrund adjourned the meeting at 7:02 P.M.
