ITEM
October 5, 1995 (Meeting of October 18, 1995)
Consider Appropriation of Additional Park Improvement
Funds for Relocation of Fencing at Griffin Park.
The City has entered into a lease agreement with Caltrans for a
portion of surplus freeway right -of -way adjacent to Griffin Park,
which can be used for park use. The area is approximately 54,000
square feet, and extends from the current fence line at the south
end of the park, to the toe of slope supporting the freeway off -
ramp and Collins Drive overpass.
The subject property is intended to be added to Griffin Park.
This would provide more usable area for park use, improve the
aesthetics of the area and reduce the amount of landscape area to
be maintained by Caltrans. It was proposed that the area be
planted in turf to maximize the flexibility of its use by people
visiting the park. The specific use of this area will be
considered by the Parks and Recreation Commission for
recommendation to the City Council. Improvements to be undertaken
by the City would include the relocation of the existing chain
link fence. There are sufficient monies in the Campus Park Zone
of the Park Improvement Fund for this purpose.
The proposed fencing is 6' high and 360' long, made from 11 gauge
chain link fence.
Staff solicited bids for the fence relocation project. Pederson
Fence Company submitted the low bid at $3,556.40.
Staff is recommending that the City Council appropriate $4,000
from Fund 5, Zone 3 (Campus Park Zone) to fund this project.
RECOMMENDATION
Appropriate $4,000 from Fund 5, Zone 3 (Campus Park Zone) for the
relocation of the fencing along the south side of Griffin park.
