Update on July 3rd Fireworks Program
At the City Council meeting of May 17, 1995, the Council
provided direction to staff on t..he City's involvement with a
proposed fireworks show on J °sly 3. Th..s included city staff
time not to exceed 30 hours, an(] c, fuTid police services for
the event, not to exceed $2,)0(
Staff attended a citizen commit'ee meeting today and has the
following information for the '� / - otlnc:il .
1. Fireworks
Pyro- Spectaculars has been contracted by the newspaper
to provide a 20 minute aeria_L show. The company carries
a $1 million per occurrence ..assurance policy for
anything related to the fireworks. The company feels
that the far eastern parking lot of Arroyo Vista
Community Park is ideal fc>r staging the fireworks, as
this will have good visit;,ility from the high school
stadium, and. is free fro r- t,rlish, �)r grass and is very
safe.
The permit fees required by �,Tentura County Fire
Department. have increases'. from 5150.00 per show, to
$690. This is included thf= $8,000 -:ost for the
fireworks show
2. Insurance
The Chamber of Commerce ccm Dbtain event insurance for
$150.00, which the newspar)e,_ wi.l pay for.
3. Parking
Sgt. Rick Hindman was present at the meeting. In his
opinion, the parking at the high school, and parking
along the park access road and the first paved parking
lot may not be enough, -and wo�-:ld recommend that the

second parking lot at Arroyo Vista Community Park be
made available for overflow parking. He recommends that
two to three cadets be positioned at the parking lot to
make sure people leave their vehicles and go to the
stadium, rather than stay .r, the park. The fireworks
company said that people and vehicles need to be at
least 500' from the staging site, and the graded area
which is being considered for the staging site exceeds
that distance from the parking The Council had
previously discussed keep ing people out of the park;
however, according to the pol;i,,e department, in order to
provide the necessary parking, the park parking lots may
need to be made availabl-. rhis would need to be
addressed by the City C,)1.11-1
Food Concessions
Dominoes Pizza contacted the committee and would like to
sell pizza at the stad=ium, and will donate 25% of its
proceeds towards next year s fireworks show. Staff is
not clear if this is the ro -=t: or gross proceeds. Other
community groups are being contacted about also selling
food items at the stadium, inn' will request a percentage
donation from each grcuj:i) al.:;) support next year's
program.
Security
The Moorpark Police Depac-t::ment will be deployed to
primarily handle traffic :and parking. The committee
will be contacting the 'VFW the Knights of Columbus to
see if their members coulc ac :` as ground security in the
stadium.
Entertainment
The City is confirming a `.) -) 2-060's band to perform from
7 pm - 9 pm in the stadium, as an opening act to the
fireworks. Staff will work with Videomax and the School
District to coordinate electrical and sound needs. The
Chamber of Commerce is contacting KNJO Radio about doing
a remote broadcast from the stad:i.um. and providing music
during intermission, arcs mu.Lc to accompany the

7. Publicity
The newspaper will begin running ads for the program in
the weekly editions next �,"eeic. The pyrotechnic company
also will supply poster:

9. Admission

The committee discussed charging a "donation" at the
gate of the stadium of $2 per person or $5 per family to
begin a fund for a 1996 LLreworks show. If large
contributions cannot be ott� awned by the committee, the
gate donations can be used to fund the $1,300 and the
balance to go to the 1996
Show. Jolunteers will be used
to collect the money at -he crane:' .
10. Clean up and Sanitatio-
G I Rubbish has offered :a cash contribution as well as
providing portable toilets and trash dumpsters. In Simi
Valley, the Recreation Di.ctrLct makes a donation to the
local Boys and Girls C..Lub >f $200 and the youth from the
Club come in the next day ind clean up the stadium. The
committee will be contacting the Moorpark Boys and Girls
Club as well as other youtri organizations in the City to
get a commitment to cl-sari I.hE 73tadium for a donation for
$200.
The Committee will meet again next 4ednesday, May 31. at 11 am
at the Chamber of Commerce of c.(.
