SUBJECT: Consider Authorizing Recordation of the Notice of
Completion for Sidewalk Construction Project 95-1
DISCUSSION
A. Background
Last November the City Council awarded a contract for the
construction of sidewalks on Harry Street, Esther Street,
Sherman Avenue and High Street. That work is now completed.
B. Fiscal Impact
1. Total Construction Contract Costs: A summary of the final
costs to Kalban, Inc. for the sidewalk construction project
is as follows:

a. Change Order #1 ($6,337) : Addition sidewalks on High
Street and a net reduction in the total amount of root
barriers required for the project.
b. Change Order #2 ($2,565) : Kalban was retained to
construct a yard drain on property located at the
northeast corner of High Street and Bard Street. [Note: This
work was required by (and funded by) the Street Reconstruction Project. Kalban was selected
to perform the work because their bid was much lower than the amount quoted by the contractor
for the Street Reconstruction Project.]
2. Total Sidewalk Project Construction Costs: A summary of the
total cost for the subject contract is as follows:

3. Total Project Construction Costs: In addition to actual
sidewalk construction contract costs, the City incurred a
number of other construction related costs. All of these
costs, including the Kalban contract are summarized as
follows:

4. SB-821 Grant: The City is in receipt of an SB-821 grant in
the amount of $40,000 to fund one-half of the construction

RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the City Council take the following actions:
1. Accept the work as completed, subject to satisfactory
completion of the maintenance period.
2. Instruct the City Clerk to file the Notice of Completion for
the project.
3 . Authorize the release of the retention upon satisfactory
clearance of the thirty five (35) day lien period.
