CITY OF MOORPARK
AGENDA REPORT
TO: The Honorable City Council
FROM: Christine Adams, Director of Community Servic
Lt. Marty Rouse, Moorpark Police Department
DATE: January 4, 1996 (Meeting of January 17, 1996)
SUBJECT: Consider Community Celebration Program.
BACKGROUND
In November, 1995, staff from the Community Services Department and the Police Department
began discussion regarding ways of doing more programs for the youth in our community,
specifically the 5th through 8th grade age group.
The dialogue resulted in a concept for an event right before the end of school in June which
would include the School District, local service organizations, businesses, the City and the
Sheriff s Department.
This event is being proposed to be held at Arroyo Vista Community Park on Saturday, June 1.
The City's Second World Fest will be held on Saturday, May 4, therefore this new event will not
be a conflict. Activities will be geared toward the youth of Moorpark, but an emphasis will be
placed on involving whole families in the event. The event is being called "Moorpark
Community Celebration '96 - Spring Into Summer ", and in addition to giving families something
fun to do, the City will also use the event to provide information on services and programs
available to families during the summer, such as recreational programs, Boys & Girls Club
activities, and other organizational services. The day's activities would end with a family dance
with a live D.J. on the Rollerhockey court.
There is no budget for this event; however, staff did budget for a Recreation Celebration for June
to promote summer classes. This budget of $345 can be used to offset some costs related to this
program. Staff is anticipating that there will be minimal direct costs for the event other than staff
time, as all other expenses will be donated or volunteered.
