OIL7 ITEM CITY OF MOORPARK AGENDA REPORT TO: The Honorable City Council "'''oy` e( FROM: Christine Adams, Director of Community Service DATE: September 26, 1995 (Meeting of October 4, 1995) SUBJECT: Consider Senior Center Purchase of Portable Sound System. The Senior Center is in need of purchasing a small, portable sound system to be used for events and activities for seniors. Most immediately, the Center needs the sound system for the upcoming Senior Expo on October 28th, which anticipates over 300 seniors in attendance. The sound system which the City purchased two years ago is designed to provide quality sound for outdoor events and /or highly attended events, and requires trained technicians to assist in the operation of the system. The proposed sound system for the Senior Center includes a four channel mixer (as opposed to a 16 channel mixer, as the other City owned system has), two speakers, two speaker stands, cables, a microphone and microphone stand. This will adequately meet the needs of the Center and provide quality sound in the Center during special lunches, guest performers, recognition programs, lectures, and dance classes. Staff has priced this equipment, and has received three bid prices. World Music $1,300 Impact Presentation $1,675 Muzicraft $2,575 Staff is proposing that the funding for this sound system come from the Senior Center Trust Account. This account was established three years ago for the purchase of additional capital equipment for the Senior Center, utilizing funds that would be received through Senior Center fundraising efforts. To date, the Trust Account has a fund balance of $8,500. This balance increases every month, primarily with fees paid for Simi Valley Swap Meet spaces, which seniors can rent on a weekly basis to sell personal items. In the past, Moorpark Senior Citizens, Inc. have shared the cost of capital expenses in the Senior Center that would mutually benefit the club's activities. Staff has requested that MSCI consider contributing to 1/2 of the cost of the proposed sound system. MSCI has indicated that the club is willing to contribute to the sound system. Staff would recommend that the City Council approve the expenditure of up to $700 for one half of the cost of a portable sound system for the Senior Center. RECOMONDATION (Roll Call Vote) Approve the expenditure not to exceed $700 for one half of the cost of a portable sound system for the Senior Center, from the Senior Center Trust Account. 0001:1.4 s 3
