AGENDA REPORT
TO: The Honorable City Council
FROM: Christine Adams, Director of Community Servici
DATE: April 3, 1996 (Meeting of April 17, 1996)
SUBJECT: Consider Langmage for Plaque for the Veteran's Memorial
Grove at Poindexter Park.
The approved park design for Poindexter Park included an area that
would be set aside as a Memorial Grove, specifically to honor men
and women of Moorpark, who had served in the country's armed
forces in the past.
The area designated will provide passive picnicking opportunities
with a large grass area and many mature pepper trees providing
shade. There are two Victorian style gazebos that can be used for
additional picnicking, but can also be used as small stages for
ceremonies on selected holidays, such as Memorial Day.
Next to one of the gazebos, there will be a flag pole and a stone
monument, recognizing the sacrifices made by Moorpark veterans for
this country.
Staff has prepared language to be inscribed on the monument. The
inscription will read as follows:
CITY OF MOORPARK
POINDEXTER PARK
VETERANS MEMORIAL GROVE
In loving memory of all Moorpark Veterans
Who served their country.
The City of Moorpark honors these veterans
for their sacrifice, compassion and courage.
Dedicated this day of
1996
Staff will have the plaque inscribed prior to the park dedication,
which is tentatively scheduled for a date (to be selected later)
in June, 1996.
