SUBJECT:
Grove at Poindexter Park.
BACKGROUND

At the April 17, 1996 meeting of the City Council, the City
Council directed staff to solicit input from both the American
Legion post in Moorpark and the local chapter of the Veterans of
Foreign Wars as to the preferred language to the plaque to be
located at Poindexter Park in the Veterans' Memorial Grove.
Staff had previously prepared draft language to be inscribed on
the monument. The inscription will read as follows:
CITY OF MOORPARK
POINDEXTER PARK
VETERANS' MEMORIAL GROVE
In loving memory of all Moorpark Veterans
Who served their country.
The City of Moorpark honors these veterans
for their sacrifice, compassion and courage.
Dedicated this day of 1 1996
Staff will have the plaque inscribed prior to the park dedication,
which is tentatively scheduled for a date (to be selected later)
in June or July, 1996.
Mr. Pete Duncan and Mr. Bill La Perch, both veterans and involved
with the American Legion and the VFW, met and provided staff with
the following recommended language:
CITY OF MOORPARK
POINDEXTER PARK
VETERANS' MEMORIAL GROVE
"We came when called, we served where sent; and we who died, did
so trusting that you will love and defend our country, its flag
and honor, so that America will be a bright star shining for all
eternity. Keep this faith, we ask you.',
Dedicated this day of 1 1996
RECOMMENDATION
Approve Language for Veterans Memorial Plaque as presented, and
direct staff to proceed with the purchase of the plaque.
