BACKGROUND The Advisory Council for the Ventura County Area Agency on Aging consists of a representative and an alternate from each community in Ventura County. The representative must be 60 years of age or older. The VCAAA by -laws have clear guidelines regarding the election process, whereby the city advertises for candidates and holds an election among the seniors of the community. City staff duly advertised for interested candidates and held the election on Monday, May 29, 1996. Two candidates applied, and a space was also on the ballot for any write in candidates. Tony Bellasalma was elected by those voting seniors in Moorpark as the representative to the VCAAA Advisory Council. Morrie Abramson was selected as alternate, with the second highest number of votes. The by -laws identify that in the election process the applicant with the highest number of votes is selected as the representative and the one with the second highest number of votes is automatically elected as the alternate. The term of office for these two individuals will be two years, and will expire in May 1998. The VCAAA by -laws prescribe that each City Council ratify the election held in their city and forward the names of elected representatives and /or alternate representatives to the County. RECOMMENDATION Ratify the election results from May 29, 1996, local senior citizen election.
