Knipe, Assistant City Engineer .,_ DATE: March 28, 1989 SUBJECT: Authorization to Advertise for Bids North High Street Widening Project BACKGROUND INFORMATION The City Engineer has prepared Plans, Specifications, Contract Documents and an Engineer's Estimate for the construction of the North High Street Widening Project. As shown on the attached vicinity map, this project extends along the north side of High Street from PD-1050 (Short) to Magnolia Street. This project will provide new curb, gutter and sidewalk and about three feet of street widening throughout the project. This alignment and scope of work was previously approved by City Council on May 18, 1988. During construction, the contractor will also be overlaying the northern half of High Street to blend the new curb and gutter improvements in with the existing street. A typical crossection of this work is also attached. Also during construction, certain on-site work will be necessary due to the proposed project. This work involves primarily the reconstruction of driveways at a few locations along the project. A sample letter is attached that will be sent to each homeowner notifying them of the proposed project and the possibility of on-site work. The Engineer's Cost Estimate for this project is $188, 900, including contingencies. 799 Moorpark Avenue Moorpark, California 93021 (805) 529-6864 Page -2- The schedule for this project is as follows: Advertise for Bids April 5, 1989 Open Bids May 5, 1989 Award Contract May 17, 1989 Start Construction June 1, 1989 Complete Construction July 28, 1989 RECOMMENDED ACTION Authorize the City Engineer to advertise for bids for the construction of the North High Street Widening Project. This will prohibit parking between 7 : 00 a.m. and 6: 00 p.m. In case of inclement weather, it may be necessary to reschedule the contractor's operation. We ask your cooperation by having your automobile parked in a location where it will not be necessary to drive on the street during the construction period. For your children's safety, we ask that you do not allow them to play in or around construction zones. We regret any inconvenience that this work may cause you.
