HomeMy WebLinkAboutAGENDA REPORT 1996 0918 CC REG ITEM 10HSept 6, 1996 - To: Honorable City Council From: Eloise Brown RE: Moorpark Redevelopment Agency- Honorarium ! a• At a special meeting June 30,1993 and lasting four minutes, the City Council adopted Resolution No 93 -954 unanimously. The resolution determined that the members would be reimbursed for expenses and receive the maximum allowable compensation ( $30 per meeting to a maximum of $120 per month) for attendance at Agency meetings. The compensation became effective for the first meeting of July, 1993 and was to continue thereafter until amended by a subsequent resolution of the City Council. Since that date the Agency Board has been convened more than 70 times at a cost of over $10,000. As a rule Moorpark Redevelopment Agency meetings are held by recessing from the regular City Council meeting . There is no additional trip made to attend said meeting. I submit that the majority of the meetings are of very short duration, at times barely two minutes, rarely going over five or ten minutes in length. The amount of preparation is also relatively small. While I understand that some council members may feel the compensation is their just due, I earnestly suggest that careful consideration should be given my proposal to eliminate the honorarium, which comes from our less than wealthy agency. This might be considered an action giving clear indication to the public that the intent of the council is to husband public funds and to obtain maximum value for every dollar spent. Recommendation: The City Council amend Resolution 93 -954 to allow payment of any expenses incurred by a Board member and to cease paying the compensation. OO 'U:LGZ
