September 12, 1996 (CC Mtg. 9/18/96)
Consider Off -Site Directional Signage
for Chamber of Commerce
/g /) .(
DISCUSSION/t
The Moorpark Chamber of Commerce has requested that two (2)
directional signs be allowed to direct traffic to their office (see
attached letter) . This request was presented to the Economic
Development and Affordable Housing Committee (Councilmembers Perez
and Brown) on August 21, 1996.
The approximate locations for the signs requested are along the
frontage of the Town Center, along Los Angeles Avenue and in the
vicinity of the Simi Valley Bank as shown on the attached graphic.
For economic development purposes, the Committee requested that
this item be presented to the City Council with the Committee's
favorable recommendation with placement preferably on private
property.
Allowance of these directional signs as requested by the Chamber of
Commerce would be a violation of Moorpark Municipal Code Section
17.40.090(R) which prohibits off -site signs, except as specifically
allowed in Section 17.40.140. Under Section 17.40.140, the only
exception is for drive -in restaurants which allows one (1) menu
board not exceeding sixteen (16) feet in area. If the Chamber's
request is allowed, staff should be directed to amend Section
17.40.140 to include this exception.
RECOMMENDATION
The Economic Development and Affordable Housing Committee and staff
recommend that the City Council approve this request for
directional signage for the Chamber of Commerce.

RE: Designation Signs
Dear Richard:
In the absence of a Community Development Director I was informed that this letter
should be addressed to you. As you know the Chamber of Commerce offers a public
service in that we guide people around the City and give them very helpful information
regarding the City. Therefore we are requesting that directional signs be installed
informing everyone where we're located.
The signs would measure approximately 2' x 2' (what ever would be acceptable to all
parties) and the letters would be 4" high. The color would be blue letters on a white
background. We would like to see the signs placed in strategic locations for the
convenience of the public. (see attached diagrams)
Please let me know what else 1 need to do to facilitate this request. Thank you for your
cooperation in this matter.
Sincerely,
MOORPARK CHAMBER OF COMMERCE . &k-%-
