SUBJECT: Appointments To Teen Council
BACKGROUND

The Council approved the formation of the Teen Council in February
1994, with the goal of encouraging young residents to actively
participate in the operations of their City government in a
positive and productive manner; to provide a mechanism which
facilitates communication and a spirit of involvement; and, to
provide a learning experience that is conducive to leadership
growth.
The previous Teen Council Members were appointed June 21, 1995, to
a one year term to expire June 30, 1996. The previous appointees
were Renee Beck, Stephanie Bowman, Ginny Hankins, Anthony
Rodriguez, Joshua Scherbenski, Ari Shaw and John Sherwood.
Applications for appointment to the Teen Council have been
received from the following who all live within the City:

The Teen Council Guidelines direct that the Mayor, with the
approval of the City Council, shall make the appointments. The
Teen Council is to consist of not less than seven (7) members and
not more than nine (9) with a representative from each grade level
from 7th grade to 12th grade, and no less than one (1) and no more
than two (2) representative at large. All representatives must be
Moorpark residents and be enrolled in school. To date, staff has
received a total of six (6) applications.
The Council has previously been provided with the applications.
RECOMMENDATION
Appoint Teen Council Members for a 9 month term to begin
immediately and end June 30, 1997.
