Hare, City Clerk`- ---' DATE: November 20, 1996 (CC Meeting 12/4/96) SUBJECT: CONSIDER REPORT FROM AD HOC CITIZEN APPRECIATION DAY COUNCIL COMMITTEE Pursuant to Council action on November 6 to appoint Councilmember Brown to an Ad Hoc Committee to establish a regular Citizens Recognition Day, Councilmember Brown met with the City Clerk to develop recommendations for the full Council to consider relative to implementation and event structure. Following are the points discussed and recommended: SCHEDULE Quarterly - in 1997 the fifth Wednesday of January, April, July & October Approximately 1 - 1 z hours Refreshments to follow the recognition ceremonies NOMINATIONS 1. City Service Clubs and Organizations - FOR RECOGNITION nominations not limited to their own REQUESTED FROM organization 2. Moorpark Police Chief 3. Media - requested to provide copies of relevant newspaper articles 4. Individuals - through a Character Generator message requesting nominations APPROVAL OF Council AD Hoc Committee NOMINEES ADDITIONAL 1. Eagle Scout recipients RECOGNITION 2. City volunteers at City Hall, Police Resource Center, and recreation events 0001.�.� Citizen Recognition Day Page 2 November 20, 1996 REFRESHMENT City businesses or other City organizations to SPONSORS be allowed to sponsor Citizen Recognition Day refreshments and to be given public acknowledgement of their sponsorship AWARDS Certificate of Recognition /Achievement City Pin - a special City Pin for volunteers has been developed; a special Recognition Pin could also be developed for City Recognition or the traditional City Pin given Additionally discussed was that the Council might want to look at a policy to issue proclamations at Council meetings only to City requesters and mail proclamations in response to all other requests. Councilmember Brown noted that a special recognition day would allow a more personalized recognition and also provide more seating room for family and friends of recognition recipients. STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Approve the recommendations for the Citizens Recognition Day as outlined in the report. 0003 -IS
