SUBJECT: Consider Appointments to the Senior Center Advisory Committee
BACKGROUND
The Senior Center Advisory Committee ( "Committee ") was established by action of the
City Council on October 21, 1992. Pursuant to that action, the Committee is comprised
of five members who serve simultaneous two year terms. The Committee meets
monthly (generally on the first Monday of each month) and provides the staff with
recommendations related to the programming of Senior activities, including input which
addresses the Senior Center operation and other general senior - related issues and
interests. Senior Center Coordinator Carol Ghens is the primary City staff member
assigned to support the Senior Center Advisory Committee.
DISCUSSION
City Clerk Lillian Hare has solicited applications for the Committee in accordance with
established policy. The application period closed on November 1, 1996. On November
4, 1996, the City Council was provided with copies of each of the ten (10) applications
received.
Currently, the Committee has only four members (one member was appointed as part-
time staff support to Carol Ghens). This leaves the following members (listed in
alphabetical order), each of whom has applied for reappointment (one seat is vacant):
• Morris Abramson
• Everett Braun
• Lois Brusven
• Vina J. Milburn
In addition to the incumbents listed above, the following members of the community
have also applied for Committee appointment (again listed in alphabetical order):
• Ed Cabriales
• Dan M. Diasio
• Anna McCormick
• Alice Russell
• Vera Sorrels
• Evanda (Eve) Tanhauser
