HomeMy WebLinkAboutAGENDA REPORT 1991 0501 CC REG ITEM 04Clm ' - ef PROCLAMATION HIRE A VETERAN WEEK May 5 -11, 1991 WHEREAS, the people of our state hold a deep appreciation and respect for those who served in the armed forces to protect and preserve the freedoms we enjoy as Americans; and WHEREAS, many veterans, particularly Vietnam -era veterans, have experienced difficulty readjusting to their homeland and have suffered great hardship, emotional stress and physical pain; and WHEREAS, veterans, many of them disabled, represent a significant share of our state's homeless population; and WHEREAS, although veterans possess special qualities and skills which make them ideal candidates for employment, many veterans have encountered difficulty in securing much needed job opportunities; and WHEREAS, each local office of the California Employment Development Department has programs and veterans employment representatives to ensure that veterans receive the services to which they are entitled and to promote employer interest in hiring veterans; NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Moorpark does hereby proclaim May 5 -11, 1991 as Hire a Veteran Week in California and call on local employers, organized labor, veteran organizations and state and local government to land their support to this campaign to increase employment opportunities for the men and women who have served our nation in the military. IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, the City Council does set its hand and cause the seal of the City of Moorpark to be affixed this 1st day of May, 1991. Paul W. Lawrason Jr., Mayor Bernardo M.
