On February 5, 1997, the City Council awarded a contract to Taft Electric for the relocation of
the traffic signal at the southeast corner of Park Lane at Los Angeles Avenue to accommodate the
street improvements by Simi Valley Bank. The contract was awarded in the amount of
$15,451.00. An additional 20% contingency was also authorized for the contract.
DISCUSSION
Construction of the improvements began on March 7, 1997 and final repairs were
completed on April 30, 1997.
Two construction change orders were issued. The change orders are as follows:
(1) Caltrans required that the existing signal pole foundation be removed and filled with
concrete slurry before the street improvements could continue.
(2) Because of the new location of the crosswalk on Los Angeles Avenue, Caltrans required
that four new signal loops be placed in the southbound left turn lane.
Contract Award $15,451.00

Total Contract Cost $179691.00

BUDGET AND FINAL COST
A summary of the project total project costs is as follows:
Design ............... $ 7,200.
Construction ........... $17,691.
Admin /Inspection ...... $ 3,000.

The approved FY 1996/97 Budget for this project is $29,077.

The City Engineer has completed a final inspection of the project and has found the work
to be acceptable.
Staff recommends that the City Council take the following actions:
1. Accept the work as complete;
2. Instruct the City Clerk to file a Notice of Completion for the project; and,
3. Authorize the release of the retention upon satisfactory clearance of the thirty five
(35) day lien period.
