City council Ivie:
MEMORANDUM C
TO: The Honorable City Council
BY: _.
FROM: Donald P. Reynolds Jr., Administrative Services Manager
DATE: September 24, 1997
SUBJECT: Consider Receptionist Job Description
The City Council adopted the job classification plan on February 2, 1997, and
staff inadvertently excluded a description for the receptionist position. Originally,
the consultant provided a draft classification plan, re- classifying receptionist to
secretary. The Deputy City Manager, after reviewing it with Receptionist, opted
to recommend a separate Receptionist classification be developed. This change
was overlooked when transmitted to the Council.
In subsequent communications with the consultant, it was realized that a draft
description for receptionist had been prepared but not reviewed by the
supervisor, (Administrative Services Manager), or by the staff person currently
performing receptionist duties. This review has been completed, and is provided
in the attachment. The changes recommended to the draft are shown using the
legislative red - line /strike through technique.
Having realized that this description was not included in the classification plan, it
was also inadvertently left out of the compensation study. However, the secretary
classification, paid at the same range, was used for the analysis. In staffs report
approving salary adjustments for all City positions, this range was increased
1.61%.
Recommendation
That the City Council approve the amended job description for the position of
Receptionist, as attached to this report.
