IN RE: Consider Adopting Resolution No. 97- , Supporting the efforts
of the Regional Defense Partnership - 21st Century to Strengthen
and Diversify the Defense Industry in Ventura County.
Summa W. The City Council is being asked to adopt Resolution No. 97-
indicating the City of Moorpark's support of the Regional Defense Partnership - 21 st
Century which supports military facilities in Ventura County.
Background: The City of Moorpark has been asked by the cities of Port
Hueneme and San Buenaventura to adopt a resolution showing its support for the
Regional Defense Partnership - 21st Century (RDP -21). This organization is actively
involved in securing the continued presence of the Point Mugu and Port Hueneme
military facilities in Ventura County in light of the Defense Department's proposed
"Vision 21" which will review and recommend the closure or downsizing of installations.
The RDP -21 was established as a county -wide organization to work with private
businesses and industry, other governmental jurisdictions, the communities and the
military to protect and enhance the existing military facilities and their economic
benefits to the County. Mayor Hunter is the City's representative to the RDP -21, and
any Council member is an alternate.
On November 20 and 21, Ms. Judy Miller, Director, Office of Military Base Retention,
California Trade & Commerce Agency will be visiting the area for discussions with local
officials about the economic impact of the military bases in Ventura County, including a
tour of the two facilities.
Adoption of the attached resolution will enable the City of Moorpark to be actively
involved in the support of military facilities located in Ventura County. There is no
financial support from the City requested in this proposal.
Recommendation: Staff recommends that the City Council adopt Resolution
No. 97- supporting the efforts of the Regional Defense Partnership - 21st
Century.
